Bassinet cradle offers a cozy place for baby's sleep
A bassinet cradle is essentially a mini-crib which allows a newborn baby to sleep close to the parents' bed. The baby cradle rocks gently back and forth and can either rest on the floor or hang from a stand. A bassinet offers a cozy space for a baby, duplicating the feeling the child has in the womb. A well-made cradle can run anywhere from $100 to $1,000. You will also have to pay an additional charge for the sheet. There are a number of things you should look for when shopping for a bassinet. For instance, if the cradle is made of wicker, make sure that it does not have any sharp edges or points on the inside. Also, the cradle bars should be no more than 2 3/8 inches apart. Do not use a mattress that is too small for the cradle because it could cause suffocation if the baby's head becomes wedged in the gap between the mattress and the side of the bassinet. A cradle should be equipped with rocking pins, which prevent it from tipping to one side. The Consumer Product Safety Commission offers its own guidelines for bassinets. These include making sure the bassinet has a sturdy bottom and a wide base. Also, the cradle should have smooth surfaces, with no extending staples. The legs of the bassinet should also have locks to prevent it from folding while in use. In addition, the mattress of the bassinet should be firm and fit snugly. A bassinet can come in a variety of designer styles, from makers such as Eddie Bauer and Kolcraft. Experts recommend not investing in an expensive bassinet unless you expect to have more than one child. This is because a baby can quickly outgrow a bassinet and, after a couple of months, you may find that your child is ready to graduate onto a crib.
