A convertible bassinet can take many forms depending on what you want in a bed for your newborn infant. Even if you buy an antique looking wooden bassinet, such as that in the Eddie Bauer line, you can easily convert it to a rocker with a simple adjustment with the wheels. When you no longer need it to be rocking, you simply lock the wheels in place and the bassinet becomes a stationary bed. The rocking motion of the bassinet, whether you have a Graco model or another one such as the Pooh Bear rocker, is similar to what an infant would feel when riding along in a car. Everyone knows how easy it is to get a baby to sleep in a car and this is the basis of the rocker. You no longer have to have a sore arm trying to rock the bassinet or sit up in a rocking chair humming lullabies. This chore is even covered in these bassinets because the music box plays the lullabies needed to lull the baby gently off to sleep. Another convertible feature of these bassinets is that they are portable. With the wheels, you can roll the bassinet from one room to another in the home. The sleeping basket also comes right off the base, so that if you need to travel, say to a relative's home, you can take the bed for the infant to sleep in. The bottom of the bassinet is also a great storage area where you can keep all the baby supplies you need, such as pampers, powder, sleepers, etc. Many of the bassinets also convert to a change table. Since the bassinet is only recommended for infants up to three months of age or 15 pounds, the bassinet still serves a purpose when you can no longer put the baby in it to sleep. For new mothers, the fact that the bassinet fits right into the bedside is wonderful. The height adjustments mean that you can raise the level of the bassinet at your bedside so that it is even with the height of your mattress. This makes it easy to reach the infant during the night without having to strain to get up out of bed.
